How to create an audience
Audiences are different groups of your membership, created using search filters.
The audience builder has a powerful search function that gives you the flexibility to create sophisticated audiences quickly and simply, so you can target campaigns effectively and win! Follow the steps below to create your own audience:
-----
Step 1: Set your search
Set search logic
There are two primary search logics to choose between:
ALL: To be included people must mach ALL of the criteria you include in the search.
Search returns people who match criteria 1 AND criteria 2 AND criteria 3
ANY: To be included people must match ANY of the criteria you include in the search
Search returns people who match criteria 1 OR criteria 2 OR criteria 3
Most often you will want to choose the default ALL search logic for criteria you want to meet to be included and the default ANY search logic for exclusions.
For more complex searches where you need different logic for different criteria you can use groups.
Set search criteria
The audience builder search function allows you search using a wide range of criteria. You can either include people who match the criteria, or exclude people who match criteria.
-----
Step 2: Check search results
After you have created your search and hit next, you will be shown a summary of the search you have created and the number of people the search has returned. Sense check this against the number you would expect.
Tip: If your search isn't running as expected, look again at the logic you have used. It can help to read out the criteria and include the logic explicitly to see if this is the source of the issue, as below:
-----
Step 3: Audience properties and name
Name your audience and select if you would like to make a template audience or share the audience with sub organisations:
Make this audience available as a template?
If you will be using this audience frequently, select this to make a quick start audience which will appear of your home page. If only needed for a set period of time you can remove the template audience by editing the audience and unticking this box.
Share with sub-organisations?
Select this if you would like sub-organisations to be able to use this audience when creating campaigns in Movement. Eg if you are a national admin and you would like regional admins to be able to use this audience to set up campaigns at a regional level.
